In the early days, we were really involved with Expression Engine and loved the robustness of Expression Engine. It's pretty crazy how a very small license deters spammers, and since Craft was a byproduct of Expression Engine, it's done the same. For a very small license fee, you're getting open-source functionalities that are minimal without the bloat or all the bells and whistles of WordPress or Drupal.
We feel Craft is a really great solution for brands that feel like WordPress was a “little much”, or they didn't need more than just a minimal CMS, and Drupal just wasn't in the cards for them. Craft plays very nicely with a wide variety of hosts, such as Digital Ocean, and you can spin up a really nice server with a ton of bells and whistles for a low monthly fee. We have a nice portfolio of Craft CMS clients, and if you're in the market for Craft, contact us to see if we can be a good fit!
Craft is the next solution for when a company has had a bad experience with Drupal or WordPress. Oftentimes enterprise brands may have inherited a Drupal website that was either overengineered and just too complex and unfortunately this is an issue with Drupal because it is so flexible. It can become overengineered and brands can acquire too much technical debt with the platform. While technical debt happens intrinsically or naturally with every enterprise over time, Drupal can probably be the worst or acquire the most technical debt out of any of the platforms. Craft's a nice solution because it's more secure. So, IT departments usually sleep better at night knowing that they're not going to WordPress, which has dozens of vulnerabilities every single week, but they can get the customization and enterprise security that they need. Those are often the cases we see when a brand may migrate from Drupal or WordPress over to Craft.
We can make your Craft website blazing fast. From progressive responsive design approaches, caching stacks, code optimizations to Content Delivery Networks, we understand all the elements to give your visitors a fast viewing experience.
We're fans of using Digital Ocean and Forge for our Craft CMS tech stack. These platforms have become more user friendly over the years and offer very good pricing.
Our team is very excited about Craft CMS 6. This is a big move, specifically for a Laravel developer and our team loves Laravel. But, we feel there isn't a huge difference for a Craft CMS website in relationship to the overall Craft ecosystem. All things will work as it is, as we do on the current Craft Version.
Mostly, the new things will be available for Craft Plugin developers. Also, most of the plugins won’t be affected by this migration, as they developed a bridge for older plugins, so they will work fine.
The UI will change in 6 and now it is using Laravel/Inertia with Vue js. If they provide Inertia js support for front-end development, that would be a big change. We're actively reviewing Craft CMS 6 and look for opportunities to contribute.
